I need a hand book or notes on how to design a radiative heating system.Does any one have any designs?
shed designs 1 Comment »I am intending on using black tube type infrared gas burner heaters.
My attempts to contact via email have been answered as out of office. To date I have been reverse engineering a consultation/quote based on mounting them at 6metres height and at 45 degrees. I have used cosine law, Inverse Square and a knowledge of lighting design to work out the irradiances at different heights for a directly overhead arrangement.
However the problem is I have had to assume the original idea from the sales person was spot on. Whenever I contact them I get a rule of thumb type response. They are too far away to just pop in when I come across something different.I need enough info to check my figures basically. Also I want enough info to proceed with some confidence. I have had some issues with some so called heating engineers in the past and these people don’t seem to have the knowledge required. please don’t suggest alternatives I am trying to heat a large well vented shed
There are solid texts on heat and mass transfer. The one for my heat transfer class had two solid chapters including hundreds of design problems. The author was Incropera. You should check it out.
Some areas of heat transfers are an empirically driven approximate science. They arent trivially approximate, and the better approximations vary from each other by a few pieces of one percent.
I want to downsize, and can only afford to buy a long pressure treated wood storage building. I will have to add insulation, electrical, and water systems, but I would like to know if a person can live in an outdoor storage shed. If anyone has the answer please let me know.
Well FEMA had all the emergency trailers for people made out of particle board for the hurricane people in new orleans… formaldehyde causes a heck of a lot of problems for the human body.. but if you have to stay in a place like that please hanging philadandrum (spelling?) plants and air purifiers. The plants purify the air but you still need the purifiers.
Sometimes you have to do what you have to do.
My dad and I want to build a barn like storage shed like 12X14, we are building it on our vacation land we own. We are going to use this thing for a tiny cabin with a bunk bed in the back and a wood burner up front. We also want it to be tall enough to make a loft like bed in the top. We have only built a outside shower up there so we don’t have alot of experience in building things, we also have a small budget so we don’t want to get a kit. What are the steps that we have to take? and would a barn style shed be best or something else?
someone else please answer, obviously the first guy di not read the whole thing, if you do you will find the part that says WE HAVE A SMALL BUDGET
I built one from a kit from the local hardware store (not a big box store) for $1000. It was 10×16. As someone else already mentioned, you will need to look into local building codes. I love the idea of a small storage building/bunk house. Always wanted to do that. Have fun. By the way, keep in mind that you will want an exit at the opposite end of the building, away from the fire…just in case. And make sure that it is not super "air tight" as the fire will consume lots of oxygen.
Winter is coming and my big lab has a dog house, but I dont want him out there in the Illinois winter. I cannot put him in the house because he is so destructive. Its not a good idea.
I though about building a pre designed garden shed with windows from a manufacturer, and putting him in there, but again, he chews and would destruct the shed, so now I think I will just put a doggie door in the back of the garage. How much do you think it would cost? Whats involved? I want a door that swings like saloon doors or something that.
Any ideas to help me decide what to do?
My back yard is fenced in around the side and the back of the garage, so the dog would be loose in his fenced in yard. The garage is made of wood and I do not plan to put a door in a door, but a door in the wall of the garage. The walls are 2×6’s I think and covered with wood. The siding is that old lap compressed siding they used in the 1970’s. I want the door to be about 2 ft tall and wide enough to squeeze a fat choco lab thru. The dog will have access to the garage this way because the doors will be down and the side door closed. What I would not do for my dog. Lord!!! I just installed $4K worth of chain link fence for him and now he has learned to dig. I keep a wheel barrel full of dirt to fill holes in about once a week.
You can purchase pet doors at building supply or hardware stores… the type you would most commonly see located in the bottom half of a ‘human’ door… but you can also mount these in a wall. The installation is the same as putting one in a ‘human’ door.
I would go with one of these rather than ’swinging’ doors… with the flap on them, they keep the warm air in better, and most versions have a feature where you can slide a panel down over them to keep the pet inside, or out, as necessary.
I would also suggest that you think about getting a ‘crate heater’… this is a small heating pad, that slips underneath your pets bed (about $25)…. it will keep em warm all winter
Also a heated water dish (about $10) to keep the water from freezing. You don’t want to dehydrate your pet.
Have Fun
Someone and I don’t know who, locked the dead bolt on the door instead of just putting the padlock on, for which I have a key. I do not have a key to the dead bolt and all my tools are in the storage shed except I do have a reciprocating saw with wood pruning blades and one small blade that I do not know what it is for. I also have a heavy duty set of files. What would be the best way to break into my shed. Now I am disabled and clumsy, so take that into consideration when answering.
Note: My reciprocating saw is a Firestorm and the one unknown blade is #FS4807.
Please someone help me so I can get the lawn mower and other things.
Thanks but I had already done what you suggested but I’ll give u best answer since you are the only one who answered and I also messed with it today and got the door to shimmy and shake and I got it free from the dead bolt so I got in my shed!!!
look in the yellow pages and find a hardware store that sells Black and Decker firestorm products, I’m pretty sure that Lowe’s carries firestorm which is made by Black and Decker
Call them and give them the number of your saw blade. If it’s a blade for cutting metal you should be able to use it to cut your deadbolt by wedging it in between the door.
Or you can just simply buy the blade you need to cut it with your saw. Either way you should be able to use your saw to cut the dead bolt. If that doesn’t work you may have to call a locksmith but let’s hope not.

I did just give a really consise answer, but only to be informed that yahoo answers were taking a break! I am a Chartered Town Planner – if you need any advice please drop me a line at info@aspireplanning.co.uk.
I want to build a tool shed myself and just need the plans. Where can I find plans for free?
shed designs 4 Comments »I just want a simple design. Possibly 8×8. I’m buying the matirials and doing the work but I don’t want to have to pay to get plans.
Here are plans for 2. They are a little bigger than 8×8 but making it a bit shorter shouldn’t be a problem. Most people I know always wish they had made the shed larger to begin with so maybe an 8×12 would be a better idea anyway, if you have the room.
Whats the maximum size shed you can have in your garden without planning permission?

This is in the countryside in the UK i’m on about.
Really depends on the size of your garden and how far away the neighbouring houses are
