My husband does music and we want to build a shed type building (8×10 or larger) so he can use it as a studio.
Making it into a studio isn’t the problem, he knows what he needs for that part of the project, but we aren’t sure how to build the building itself.
We are putting it in the backyard and just want a cheap and basic design.
If anyone knows how to build one or knows of a site that has plans and all that, I would greatly appreciate it!!!
Go to your local lumber store and ask for those free booklets they give away on various building projects for the backyard — or perhaps there"s someone in your town who is selling some kind of out-building–used or new–some will deliver. What about buying a metal garden type building that you erect with screws ?Put in a floor and there you go. These come in several sizes and designs to fit your need.
Plastic Outdoor Storage Sheds – How do they compare (cost wise) with Metal & Wood Sheds?
wood storage shed 2 Comments »
Plastic outdoor sheds are cheaper than wooden sheds, but costlier than metal sheds.
I recently bought a plastic resin storage shed (10 x 10) for about $1600. A similar metal shed would have cost one-third that price — but I stay away from metal because of durability & maintenance issues.
All the sheds I’ve built / bought over the past 15 years have been either plastic or wood. They are easy to install and very durable.
I want to build a garden/storage shed 12Wx16L with 2 levels, I would like to get some plans/photos for one.?

id like a nice flower come butterfly design on my shed, the problem is which pain to use? as i dont want it to wash off with the weather. i was looking at acrilic or oil, is either good.
i was looking for nice hanging butterflies, but either too expensive or cheap tacky plastic ones. so if you know where i could find realilistic looking butterflies that would be great.
many thanks to you if you can help with either question.
Use any exterior grade paint you like. If the shed is unpainted just thin the first coat of primer down so it soaks in and takes a grip. My preference is oil-based paints. Be careful putting polyurethane varnish over water-based paints as the previous answer suggests as strong solvent varnish can bite into or melt water-based paint.
I live in a mobile home park. Every house has a storage shed that was built sitting directly on the dirt when the home was installed. The shed is about 8×10, made of wood whatever that siding is that they put on new mobile homes. Since it is sitting on the dirt, it seems to me that it will begin to decay and also will get termites (in fact, it has them already). I wish it could have been built on a concrete slab, but the park does not allow that. So I was thinking it would be good to raise it up on bricks around the exterior wall, at least, so it is not sitting on the dirt.
But how to go about that? The thing ways a near infinite amount, as far as I can tell (though it has no foundation below the dirt), and there is no way to slide something like a jack under one side unless I dug a hole under the side. So how to raise it? Or is it a bad idea?
And is there something I can put for termites in the boards touching the dirt short of having it tented? The floor is plywood.
this is very hard to do without the floor area collapsing downwards even if you empty out the shed before you start, the easiest way I have found is to disassemble the shed piece by piece very carefully , set your blocks that will support the whole thing evenly and reassemble. if you break or the wood is to far gone with rot buy new to replace it, the people who put this building up to start with took the cheapest way put and now you have to deal with it. good luck.
want to build my own garden shed. anyone got any plans or a BIG shed they want me to collect and relocate?

who can design me a bike shed for a young persons hostel Security inside as well as outside is the most import
shed designs 5 Comments »the bikes need to be secure inside as well as outside we need a system where all the young people have there own way of accessing their bike inside so maybe all can have a key to get inside but then each person oly to be able to remove their own bike
Well you have given some details left out in your first attempt. Obviously as many locks as students with bikes, and perhaps that many keys for loks on any doorways, BUT…
Someone of authority should be monitoring the coming and going of any student with access. To allow everyone free access to the structure itself; might suggest that every bike in the shed is subject to scavanging; by anyone. IE: I have two keys. One to get into the shed; and another to unlock my own bike. "Ah Gads My bike has a flat tire…GRRR. Ah that one next to mine has the same hardware and configuration as mine. I bet they won’t mind if I BORROW their wheel."
That’s not a judgement of anyone; just a possibility to consider.
BTW: I’d suggest never using combination locks. They are easy to remember…and forget. Obviously a Key lock can have issues as well with losing a key; but the lock would be easier to access; and again; I suggest some level of monitoring access. Example: A manufacturing plant will often have a steward; responsible for TOOLS. One must sign a tool out, and sign it back in. The person who signs it out is most responsible for the care of the tool, and returning it; but the steward is responsible for the eventual security of that tool.
Certainly all the peripherals that accompany a system like that; might be beyond your capability or desire; but this isn’t a bunch of family members you give refuge too. It is likely people you may never see again?
In years of traveling; I have one final example…abstract or not. Consider a DORM type situation. My bed pillow is hard; it smells; and I can’t sleep. One of my Dorm mates has a better pillow. They happen to be asleep very soundly. I’ll just switch my pillow with theirs (GENTLY); never waking them.
I’m thinking on buying a backyard storage shed but not sure if I should go for vinyl or wood shed. Which one of this is more suitable for Houston? My HOA says I can choose either one but I’m not sure on the pro and cons of the twos except the $$$ different. I want to stor unused furniture but worried the moist and heat will damaged the furniture. Adding A/C or heater is not possible as the outside outlet is at the other end of the house and the mowing factor ………… Please advise.
I live in Houston and I have a Rubbermaid vinyl shed that is doing pretty well for me. I store gardening tools and my lawnmower in it. It does get buggy with spiders etc. BTW, it made it through IKE in perfect shape.
